Wooden Bifold Doors Timber Concertina

Overview

Bi-Fold Doors Open Up the Whole Wall

Bi-fold doors fold back to open almost the entire wall and join the room to the garden. Bespoke Timber Windows makes and fits each set of wooden bifold doors as one assembly, so the person who measures your opening is accountable for how the doors fit and run.

Key Benefits

Maximum Aperture

Leaves fold flat to the reveal, opening almost the whole wall for true indoor-outdoor living.

Engineered timber stiles keep frames slim so you see more glass and less frame.

Smooth Running

Stainless-steel top-hung track and sealed rollers glide with a light touch, year after year.

Secure Traffic Door

Integrated single-leaf traffic door with multi-point locking for everyday use. Optional PAS 24 certification.

What Goes Into a Timber Bi-Fold Door

A bi-fold door is a system, not a set of panels: leaves, a track, rollers, locks and a cill that have to work together. Knowing the parts helps you compare quotes from one bi-fold doors manufacturer to the next, because a lower price can mean a lighter track or fewer locking points.

  • Leaves: Engineered timber stiles keep the frames slim, so you see more glass and less frame.

  • Top-hung track: Stainless steel and corrosion resistant, rated for heavy timber leaves.

  • Rollers: Sealed, so the doors glide with a light touch.

  • Traffic door: A single leaf with multi-point locking for everyday use.

  • Shootbolts: Top-and-bottom bolts that lock each folding leaf securely closed.

  • Cill and threshold: A standard or low-profile weathered cill, for level access if needed.

  • Glazing: Toughened double or triple glass across every leaf.

Double Glazed Bi-Fold Doors Options

A set of bi-fold doors can be the largest area of glass in the house, so the glazing decides how warm the room stays in winter and how cool in summer. All double glazed bi-fold doors from Bespoke Timber Windows are A-rated, and triple glazing or solar control glass is available where the size or direction of the opening calls for it.

Glass Feature U-Value
Double Glazed Most homes, with low-E coating and argon fill on every leaf. A-Rated 1.2 W/m²K
Triple Glazed Maximum warmth across large expanses of glass. – 0.7 W/m²K
Solar Control South-facing doors that overheat in summer. – 1.1 W/m²K

Internal Folding Doors for Open-Plan Living

Internal folding doors let you open two rooms into one when you want space, and close them when you want privacy. They suit kitchen-diners, living rooms and home offices, and they fold back flat to the reveal so they take up very little room.

Bespoke Timber Windows makes internal folding doors from the same timber, with the same slim frames, as our exterior sets. Glazed leaves share light between rooms, and you can choose a different colour on each side to suit each room.

Bi-Fold Doors Installation Across London and the Home Counties

Bi-fold doors installation needs a level cill, a true track and a tight weather seal, so Bespoke Timber Windows uses its own installers for every fit. We offer supply and fit, or supply only if you have your own builder.

We fit bi-fold doors across Pinner, Stanmore, Wembley, Northwood, Ealing and Barnet, and further out in Hertfordshire, Surrey and Essex.

Bi-Fold Doors Installation: From Enquiry to Fitting

Bi-fold doors installation with Bespoke Timber Windows follows six steps, and the most important one is the survey, because a long run of leaves only folds smoothly on a level cill and a true track. Your doors are made and fitted 8–12 weeks after order confirmation, and our own installers carry out every step on site.

  1. Enquiry: Tell us about the opening, send a few photos and say how you want the doors to fold. We come back with a free estimate before you book anything.

  2. Survey: We measure the opening, check the lintel and cill level, and agree the number of leaves and the fold direction. Booking the survey takes a 10% deposit, which comes off your final order total, so the survey is free when you order.

  3. Quote: You receive itemised prices and a clear specification for the leaves, track, glazing, locks and finish.

  4. Build: Your doors are made, glazed and factory-finished as one assembly in our workshop.

  5. Fitting: We remove the old doors, fit the frame and track, hang the leaves, then adjust the rollers, locks and seals.

  6. Aftercare: We show you how to fold and lock the doors, advise on maintenance and return if anything needs adjusting.

Bi-Fold Doors: Your Questions Answered

Bespoke Timber Windows makes bi-fold doors from two to seven leaves. The leaves can all fold to one side, or split and fold both ways. Sets of three or more usually include a single traffic door, so you can step in and out without folding the whole run back.

Yes. Bi-fold doors from Bespoke Timber Windows use a fully sealed, gasketed system with a weathered cill, tested for weather performance. Timber is also a natural insulator, where aluminium frames rely on thermal breaks, and we can fit a low threshold for level access.

Very little. Wooden bifold doors with a factory-sprayed finish on engineered timber need only an occasional wash and a light re-coat every several years. Brush the track clear of grit to keep the rollers running smoothly.

Yes. Bespoke Timber Windows makes internal folding doors for openings between rooms, such as a kitchen and dining room, in the same timber and colours as our exterior bi-folds.

It depends on the work. Replacing existing doors like for like must meet building regulations, and because Bespoke Timber Windows is FENSA Registered, we handle that paperwork when we fit. If the opening is new or being widened, or the doors are part of an extension, the work needs Building Control approval instead, usually because a new lintel or other structural change is involved. You or your builder apply for that, and we can supply the door sizes and specification. Planning permission is often not needed for a like-for-like replacement, but check with your local planning authority if the house is listed or in an Article 4 area.

It depends on the width of the opening. French doors are a hinged pair, suited to openings up to around 1.8m and a classic look. Bi-fold doors suit wider openings and fold back to open almost the entire wall. See our French doors page to compare.
